Voluntary Work

The Grid

I have been helping a disabled family with their PC for the last 18 months. The PC is controlled by a single head switch and uses specialist software called The Grid. The software allows the user to type, use the pointer and control programs through its interface. I have created user-defined grids to carry out windows tasks. As the user can only click one action at a time I have had to create grid cells to reduce the amount of actions the user would have to do e.g. maximise windows = ALT + SPACE, then X.

Tasks

  • Configure user settings for various applications including user profile, signatures, templates, and program defaults.
  • Installing The Grid software and customising it for the user
  • Analysing user requirements and then creating solutions and shortcuts.
  • Bexhill Braille Bibles (Charity) January 99

Voluntary Work - The work done by the charity involved creating computer programs to convert a variety of foreign scripts into Braille. I was asked to sort out their software into Languages and date order, so that the disks could be accounted for and then forwarded to the relevant charities
